Ralph Coates

Ralph Coates, a Washington, D.C. native, passed away on December 1,2024. Born on July 14, 1962, to the late Marion Brown and Ralph Coates. Ralph was raised in the heart of uptown Washington , D.C., where he became known for his charisma, wit and his fearless honesty. Ralph (affectionally known as Skeeter) never hesitated to speak his mind and his words-whether sharp or humorous-always left an impression. Skeeter was a product of the D.C. public school system and proud graduate of Roosevelt High School. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he continued to dedicate himself to service, retiring from the United States Postal Service. A man of many passions, Skeeter lived life on his own terms. He loved traveling and exploring new places, collecting stories and experiences along the way. When he wasn't planning his nest adventure, you could find him parked in front of the TV yelling cheering on his beloved Oakland Raiders. Skeeter's energy shone brightest in the things he loved the most. From bowling to skating at the (insert skating rink name) to trash-talking on the softball field. Skeeter's energy was felt. Whether it was a family cookout, party or special gathering, DJ Skeeter's spins were a hit and he set the tone for every celebration with his music. Ralph's love for family was as strong as his personality. He is survived by his children, Ltosha Condah, Ali Condah, Brittany Walker, and Teon Coated, and his grandchildren, Ari and Nasir Condah, Neveah Christy, Charli Kinney, and Kingston Coates. He also leaves behind his siblings, Robert and Charrissa Brown, his beloved (and favorite) aunt, Mary Lou Hawes, who he held close as a second mother and his special friend, Cynthia Mallory, whose companionship brought light to his later years. He is also proceeded by a host of cousins ,nieces, nephews and loving friends. Skeeter lived life unapologetically, with a sarcastic remark always at the ready and heart full of love for those who truly knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love for those who truly knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love and memories that will keep his spirit alive forever.
