Mr. Matthew Talbert Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

OBITUARY Matthew (aka “Matt” or “McKool”) Talbert passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Washington DC after a long illness. Matt was born on Saturday - October 22, 1960 in Edgefield, SC to Gladys Talbert and the late Willie Talbert. The Talbert’s relocated to Alexandria, Virginia where Matt attended schools in Alexandria; Matt graduated from T.C. Williams (now Alexandria City High School). After graduation in 1979 Matt joined the U.S. Army and served for 10 years. On August 20, 2001 Matt married his love Dorothy Wheeler. From a previous marriage Matt had three children. Matt worked various jobs until he retired. Matt was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Matt loved his wife and family. As Matt’s health declined, he would boldly say “it’s all in God’s hands”. Matt loved listening to 95.5 WPGC. Matt was very competitive when he was playing video games and cards. He would always say “I play to win”; followed by his loud roaring laugh. Matt was a die-hard basketball and football fan! Matt would call the DC Basketball team The Washington Gizzards!! Matt’s favorite basketball team is the Chicago Bulls, especially during the Michael Jordan era! Matt enjoyed all football games in his Redskins room. Matt and his crew would watch two TVs. Matt would always ask his guests are you hungry? Dorothy would cook for his guests. A Sunday did not go by when Matt would miss a game; even if it meant he didn’t have company; you would find Matt watching football on Thursday nights and Sunday’s. The Commanders (aka Redskins) for life!! In addition to his father, Matt was predeceased by his siblings: Willie Russell Talbert, Barbara Ann Talbert; grandparents: James and Carrie Talbert, James and Jeanie Middleton. Matt leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: Wife: Dorothy Wheeler-Talbert, Mother: Gladys Talbert, Brothers: Lester Dean Talbert (Sayana), Sister: Corine Annette Jackson (Rick); Frederick Ronald Talbert, Brother in Christ: James Melcher, Aunts: Catherine Lazenby of Woodbridge, VA; Edner Gilliam of Columbia, SC, Mary Talbert of Edgefield, SC; Uncles: Alonzo Middleton (Roselee) of North Augusta, SC, Clarence Middleton of Jamaica, NY and Allen Talbert of Augusta, GA; Children: Valentina Lorrick, Manwell Talbert, Charnell Talbert and Meloney Wheeler. Grandchildren: Modesty, Lawrence, Roneya, Tymel, Dillon, Isaiah, Jeremiah Aria, Armani, Charnell Jr.; Great Grandchildren: Adiyson Talbert, Tatum and Malachi Sears; Sidekick: Porsche; Best friend: William Waller and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
