June 13, 1980 - July 25, 2020
Tia Demetria Cokley went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 25, 2020. She was a devoted mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was a loving and caring person with a heart of gold, and she opened her heart to all. Her personality was immediately evident to everyone she met Tia was born on June 13, 1980, in Washington, DC, to Lorraine Cokley and Roger Johnson. She received her formal education in DC Public Schools, and received her diploma from Cardoza High School. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and accepted Christ at an early age. She frequently expressed her belief in God and loved quoting his word. Tia loved her family, family gatherings, and eating crabs. She would often find her dancing, singing, taking pictures, and hugging and kissing on her family. Her most pride and joy were her three kids. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Tia possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sherman and Dorothy Mason; her paternal grandfather, Alfred Byrd; and her nephew Charles Cokley. Tia leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Teyonna Cokley, Tyreak Cokley, and Ta'Veah Cokley; her mother, Lorraine Cokley; her father, Roger Johnson; sisters: Tawaula Cokley, Tanisha Bryant, Rarnita Headspeth, Ebony Johnson, and Precious Fox; brothers: Roger Cokley, Denzel Johnson, and Sha-Kim Armstead; grandmother, Dansy Johnson; aunts: Trudy Byrd, Sheila Chew, Clara Cokley, Sharon Garrett, Judy Johnson, Barbara, Spence (Carl), Sharon Sprow, and Diane Tinsley; uncles: Sydney Byrd, Bruce Johnson, Frankie Johnson, and Ralph Johnson; Goddaughter, Ashley Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who know and love her.
