Celebrating the Life Winnie Mae Barnes Sunrise Sunset July 16, 1937 February 17, 2019 Winnie Mae Barnes (also known as Mae) was 82 years old when she went home to be with the Lord on Sunday February 17, 2019. Winnie was born July 16, 1937 in Wilson, NC to the late James (Buddy) Taylor and Emma (Big Mom) Taylor and the eldest of seven children. Winnie was proceeded in death by her late husband David Barnes, daughter Wanda Parker, grandson Jacque Pate and her siblings, Flossie Harmon, Lossie Burnette, Willie James Taylor, Gray Tart Taylor and her partner of over 35-years Joseph Abney. After completing her education she met and married David Barnes; they relocated to Washington, DC where she became a nurse for US Soldier and Airmen’s Home for over 25 years. Mae found satisfaction in helping others especially the elderly and sharing the word of God. Her hobbies included crocheting, thrift store shopping and spending time in Walmart. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren sharing her wisdom. Winnie Mae is survived by two sisters, Daisy Edmonson and Lorraine Tyson; three children, Donahue Barnes, Emma Campbell, Jacquelyn Kiah and Lawrence Harmon (Godson); six grandchildren – Wendy, Leonard, Tasheda, Wesley II, Lesley and Dominique; ten great grandchildren Taylor, Mishae, Le’Andre, Dion, Thomas, Lesley II, Wesley III, Zyon, Zion, and Ajanae; best girlfriends Alice Logan and Earnestine Pate; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
