Annie Bell Kirkland

Annie Bell Kirkland, aged 82, of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones November 23, 2025, in Marietta, GA. Born on October 04, 1943, in Augusta, GA. She was the 3rd daughter of 4. Annie was a devoted wife, mother, stepmom, grand/ great and Great-Great grandmother, daughter, auntie, niece, friend, as well as a cherished member of Peace Baptist Church and the community. Annie was known for being the life of the party, bubbly personality, funny sense of humor, patience, kindness, amazing food, faith in God, and her love for her mother and family. Educated in the Augusta, GA public school system in the early 40s through the late 50s. She also lived in Boston and Miami, and Washington, DC., where she lived for 50+ years. She worked and retired from Guest Services with 25 years in hospitality. Annie was always in a lane all of her own. Even with 10 kids she made sure everyone knew how special you were in their own way. Nothing meant more to her than family. With legs for days and a smile that will melt your heart per Bobby, she was a beautiful person in and out. Annie was a party starter and could cut a rug any time of the day, anywhere. When she came fun and a good time came right along with her. She met the love of her life in Washington DC, in the early 70s. Ever since they got together he was on that “ Midnight train to Georgia” forever. They spent 44 wonderful years together with a bond that truly stood the test of time. Annie Bell was truly a queen in her own right. Some called her “Big Mama” some called her ” The Queen Pen”, but she was “always known as” a true woman of God who walked in her faith daily. Annie is survived by her Children, Johnnie Lee Gray (son) (Bobbie Johnson), Terri Brown (step-daughter), Latonia Thompson (daughter), Dwayne Thompson (son), Rochelle Wages (step-daughter), Angela Shaw (daughter) (Eddie), Carolynette LaGana, (daughter) (Bruce) Marnethia WIlliiams (daughter) (Lawrence), Calvin Thompson, (son), Theda Coates (step-daughter), Sheryl Kirkland (daughter) (Labron Rudisill), Robert Kirkland Jr., (son) (Rickeeda), 32 Grand kids, 53 Great-Grand kids, 5 Great-Great Grand kids. She is preceded in death by Robert Kirkland Sr., (husband) Antonio Thompson (son), Laura Bell Jackson (mother), Jay D. Gant (father), Carolyn Armstrong (sister), Rose Merry Hankerson (sister), Betty Beasley (sister) Johnnie Lee Gant (brother), Jerry Ramsey (Granddad), Louise Ramsey (Grandma).
