CRAIG DAMON LEAK

Craig Damon Leak-Monroe was born on July 22, 1971, in Laurinburg, North Carolina, to the late Emma Neal Leak and William Houston Monroe. He peacefully departed this life on July 16, 2026, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. Craig was educated in the Scotland County school system and graduated from Scotland High School in Laurinburg in 1990. He continued his education at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he earned his degree in 1995. Following graduation, Craig relocated to Washington, D.C., where he lived independently and made his home for the remainder of his life. Craig was employed by the District of Columbia Department of Human Services as a Vocational Development Specialist.. Throughout his career, he dedicated his knowledge, time and talents to helping others develop valuable skills and pursue meaningful opportunities. His work reflected his genuine commitment to supporting, guiding and encouraging those he served. Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Neal Leak and William Houston Monroe; one brother, William Houston Monroe Jr.; and three sisters, Danni Legrand, Polly Ann Monroe and Shelia Monroe. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his beloved memory his beloved son, Craig Damon Leak ll; and his significant other, Talia Whitley and two granddaughters, Aniya S. Leak and Alora J. Leak, whom he deeply loved and adored; his dedicated and steadfast significant other, Nataee Hollowell; and his devoted nephew, Sherrod D. Monroe, whom he cherished dearly. Nataee and Sherrod remained faithfully by his side and supported him through every step of his journey. Craig also leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, John W. Monroe and his wife, Teretha and James L. Monroe; and four sisters, Mazzie Hampton, Rosemary Rainer, Lillie R. Rostic and her husband, Jimmy and Iris F. Fields and her husband, William. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, coworkers and loved ones. Craig will be remembered for his independence, dedication to his work ,love for his family and passion for his favorite football team. His life, love and memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
